(Osgood, Ind.) – One arrest for battery led to another for marijuana possession in Ripley County Tuesday.

At about 2:50 a.m., Deputy Abraham Hildebrand was patrolling in the Osgood area when he noticed four men acting suspicious near the intersection of Walnut Street and Railroad Avenue.

Hildebrand found that two of the men – Caleb A. Smith, 23, of Lake Orion, Mich. And Elgin A. Fidell, 22 - had been in a fight over a drug transaction.

Smith is now held at the Ripley County Jail charged with Possession of Marijuana. 

Fidell’s case is being reviewed by the Ripley County Prosecutor’s Office to decide Fidell will be charged with Dealing Marijuana and Battery.

Two other men who were present have not been charged because police believe they were not participating in the criminal activity.
