(Cincinnati, Oh.) - A man who admitted to causing an Ohio River boating accident that killed another man and injured a woman was sentenced Thursday.
Glenn Riegelsberger pleaded guilty earlier this year to two counts of aggravated vehicular homicide and one count of aggravated vehicular assault.
Prosecutors said Riegelsberger was drunk when he drove his boat over the top of another vessel on the Ohio River near Riverside Park in Sedamsville last June 9. The crash killed the driver of the other boat, Jeffrey Foster, and seriously injured Foster’s passenger Jennifer Holwadel. Witnesses said Riegelsberger's boat was going too fast in the no-wake zone where the crash occurred.
Riegelsberger left the scene of the crash. He drove his boat to shore, got out, and ran away on foot.
The 54-year-old was sentenced to four years in prison, followed by five years on probation. He must also pay $100,000 in restitution to Holwadel, who suffered a broken back.
