Eagle 99.3 is proud to salute our U.S. military veterans and their brothers and sisters who have died in the line of duty. Here is a list of local Memorial Day observances around the tri-state.
Bright, Indiana – A ceremony will be held at the Gibson Cemetery on Stateline Road at 12:15 p.m. Organized by the churches of Bright, American Legion Post 199, VFW Duwel Post 7570, and AMVETS Post 13. Grave sites of soldiers dating back to the Revolutionary War will be decorated with an American flag.
Dillsboro, Indiana – Northcutt-Laaker American Legion Post 292 will host services at Oakdale Cemetery in Dillsboro at 1:00 p.m., followed by a second service at St. John Church Cemetery in Farmers Retreat at 3:00 p.m. Veterans graves will be marked with American flags. Hidden Valley, Indiana – 7th Annual Thunder on Wheels Veterans Memorial Parade through Hidden Valley Lake. Decorated vehicles and floats meet at the Willie’s parking lot.
Aurora, Indiana – Service at Riverview Cemetery starting at 11:00 a.m. Featuring guest speaker Retired Navy Capt. Howard T. Ross, Jr. Boy Scout Troop 637 will place an American flag at veterans’ graves.
Batesville, Indiana – Batesville’s Memorial Day Parade will start at the Batesville Memorial Pool and end at Liberty Park. A service will follow at the park.
Brookville, Indiana – Memorial Day Parade beginning at the St. Michael Catholic Church Cemetery at 9:00 a.m. The parade will end at the Maple Grove Cemetery where “Taps” will be played and a 21-gun salute.
Lawrenceburg, Indiana – Lawrenceburg American Legion Post 239 will have a Memorial Day parade down Walnut Street beginning at 10:00 a.m. There will be a post-parade memorial service at Greendale Cemetery starting at 11:00 a.m. Featured guest speaker is Dearborn Circuit Court Judge James D. Humphrey.
Northern Dearborn County, Indiana – New Alsace American Legion Post 452 will visit several cemeteries for services. East Fork Cemetery at 8:30 a.m.; St. John the Baptist Church Cemetery in Guilford at 9:00 a.m.; St. Martin Church Cemetery in Yorkville at 9:30 a.m.; St. Paul Church Cemetery in New Alsace at 10:00 a.m.
St. Leon, Indiana – American Legion Post 464 will have several services at area cemeteries. Begins with a Memorial Day mass at St. Joseph Catholic Church in St. Leon at 8:00 a.m. Cemetery route: State Road 46 at 8:45 a.m.; St. Jacob Church at 9:00 a.m.; St. Peter Church at 9:15 a.m.; Klemmes Corner North at 9:35 a.m.; Southgate at 9:50 a.m.; Big Cedar at 10:15 a.m.; Cedar Grove at 10:45 a.m.; Mt. Pleasant at 2:30 p.m.; and Harrison at 3:00 p.m.
Sunman, Indiana – American Legion Post 337 will hold services at several cemeteries. Sunman American Legion at 8:00 a.m.; St. John’s Lutheran in Hubbels Corner at 8:15 a.m.; St. John Church of Christ in Penntown at 8:30 a.m.; St. Stephen Lutheran in Spades at 8:45 a.m.; St. Nicholas Catholic Church at 9:00 a.m.; Little Memory Baptist Church at 9:30 a.m.; Adams Lutheran Church at 9:45 a.m.; St. Pius Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m.; Zion Lutheran Church in Manchester at 10:30 a.m.; Busse Cemetery at 10:45 a.m.; and St. Paul Methodist Church at 11:00 a.m.
Versailles, Indiana – The Versailles American Legion Post 173 will host a Memorial Day Parade at 10:00 a.m. The route starts at the legion hall and continues to Cliff Hill Cemetery, where there will be a memorial service. A second memorial service will follow at the Ripley County Courthouse Memorial.
Vevay, Indiana – A Memorial Day service will be held at the Veterans Monument outside of the Switzerland County Courthouse starting at 11:00 a.m. Featured speakers are Robb Barlow and his son Adam Barlow, who served as a chaplain and soldier in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, respectively. Music performed by the Vevay Music Club and Switzerland County High School Choir. If there is rain, the observance will be held at the Historic Hoosier Theater.
