(St. Leon, Ind.) - First responders from parts of Dearborn, Ripley, and Franklin counties will be practicing for a chemical leak situation Saturday.
Dearborn County Emergency Management Agency Director Bill Black says the agency is organizing the staged anhydrous ammonia leak near the St. Leon American Legion Post on Post 464 Road. The drill will begin at 9:00 a.m. and is expected to last until around noon.
Such drills are required annually by the Indiana Department of Homeland Security, Black said.
Fire departments, police departments, and EMS personnel from St. Leon, Bright, Sunman, New Trenton, and other areas will be participating. The drill includes Greater Cincinnati HazMat, Black said.
The first responders will stage at East Central High School’s parking lot, then proceed with sirens sounding and lights flashing to the accident scene near the American Legion post.
Some roads in the vicinity of the may be closed until the exercise wraps up.
