(Rising Sun, Ind.) - A former psychologist has been sentenced on fraud and theft charges.
Indiana Attorney General Greg Zoeller says Madea Woods, of Wyoming, received a 7 ½ year sentence in Jefferson County Circuit Court on Friday. The 70-year-old must also pay $300,000 in restitution. As part of her plea, Woods has also surrendered her state license.
Woods had earlier pleaded guilty to charges of Medicaid fraud and theft.
Woods was charged and arrested in February 2011 following an investigation by the Indiana Medicaid Fraud Control Unit. The investigation found that between 2002 and 2007 Woods billed Medicaid more frequently than the patients reported receiving services.
Investigators also found Woods billed for therapy that involved patients riding her horses or cleaning their stables.
Woods practiced at Burnham Woods Counseling North in Madison and from her home in Rising Sun.
