(Harrison, Oh.) - A soldier and Harrison High School graduate who died at an army base will be immortalized with a new scholarship.
Marine LCpl. Charles New passed away in his sleep on October 28, 2012 while serving at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.
The Harrison Press reports that Keith Maupin’s organization, the Yellow Ribbon Support Foundation, has started a scholarship in New’s name. Maupin is the father of Staff Sgt. Matt Maupin, a Cincinnati soldier who was captured and killed by insurgents in Iraq in 2004.
New, who was 23 when he died, was wounded in action four times serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. He was inspired to join the Marines by the events of 9/11.
