(Versailles, Ind.) - A Milan man faces up to 100 years in prison after a Ripley County jury convicts him on two counts of Child Molesting.
Ripley County Prosecutor Ric Hertel says the trial of Milan-area resident Jason Wade Halcomb, 34, wrapped up in Ripley Circuit Court on May 1. The jury deliberated for three hours before returning guilty verdicts on both charges.
Indiana State Police investigators said Halcomb molested a young girl in 2005 and 2006 when she was in primary school. The allegations were brought to the attention of Indiana State Police in 2011.
The victim was forced to testify at the trial. The court had to allow her time to compose herself during testimony, Hertel said.
“It is a monumental task for someone to stand and testify against a perpetrator like this, especially a child. I don’t think anyone can truly appreciate the difficulty and strain it causes,” the prosecutor said.
Hertel said the verdict will help the victim by providing solace and closure as she continues to heal.
Halcomb’s sentencing is scheduled for Thursday, May 30 at 3:00 p.m. He could receive 20 to 50 years on each of the two counts. He is held in the Ripley County Jail pending sentencing.
