(Burlington, Ky.) – A serious vehicle accident in Burlington last week has turned fatal after one of the drivers involved succumbed to her injuries at the hospital over the weekend.
Last Friday morning, May 3, a 2001 Chrysler Minivan and a 1996 Mercury Marquis collided on Kentucky 18. According to the Boone County Sheriff’s Office, the driver of the Mercury – Cathy Griffin, 50, of Florence – was stopped at the traffic light on Aero Parkway waiting to cross Kentucky 18 to Oakbrook Drive.
When her light turned green, Griffin began to pull forward. That’s when accident investigators say Katrina Obanion, the driver of the minivan, driving westbound on Kentucky 18 failed to stop for the red light and collided with Griffin’s vehicle.
Both Griffin and Obanion were hospitalized following the crash. Griffin died of her injuries Sunday afternoon at University Hospital in Cincinnati, the sheriff’s office announced Monday.
Investigators did not have an update on Obanion’s medical condition.
No mention was made of Obanion facing charges or being cited for the crash.
