(Dearborn County, Ind.) – For maybe the first time ever, Dearborn County is recognizing National Public Service Recognition Week, May 5-11.
Dearborn County Administrator Terri Randall says the week, which was formalized by the federal government in 1985, is to appreciate the men and women who serve our nation as federal, state, county, and local government employees and ensure that the U.S. government is the best in the world.
“To my knowledge, the County has never acknowledged this annual week nor conducted any appreciation event like this for its employees and volunteers,” says Randall. “I am sure a big part of the reason is that we are held to very strict regulations about not spending taxpayer monies on employee events, food, etc.”
The county commissioners will avoid violating any of those regulations but still give county employees their “moment in the sun” by focusing on the recognition piece and only doing minimal cost activities on breaks and lunches.
Randall is looking forward to the response to come from the first ever “Why I Love Dearborn County Challenge.”
“It will be heart-warming to see our employees reflect on our county with pride and participate in this essay contest designed to remind us all why we are here,” she said.
