David S. Hopper, also known as “The Blue-Eyed Rapist,” was booked into the Dearborn County Law Enforcement Center Thursday.
He is set to go to jury trial in Dearborn Circuit Court Aug. 2 on charges of Criminal Deviate Conduct, Attempt to Commit Rape, Robbery, Criminal Confinement with a Deadly Weapon, and Sexual Batter – all felonies.
Hopper allegedly attempted to rape a female worker at the Payless Shoe Store at the River Creek Village shopping center in Aurora in 2004. He used a gun in the attack that occured as the employee was closing the store for the night.
He was connected to the attack after investigators in Warren County, Ohio used DNA evidence to link him to the rape of two women there.
If convicted of all charges in Dearborn County, Hopper could be sentenced to up to 118 years in prison.
Hopper, previously a Burlington, Ky. resident, has already been charged or convicted of eight other rapes in Ohio and Kentucky and is likely to spend the rest of his life behind bars. Investigators believe he committed the rapes in all three states between 1992 and 2006.
