(Boone County, Ky.) - A drunk driver who crashed on Dixie Highway, killing two women, has been sentenced to prison.
Logan Ellis received the 16-year sentence in Boone County court Wednesday morning, WCPO-TV reports. It was the maximum sentence possible. He will receive credit for the time he’s served in jail since his arrest.
Ellis, 23, of Nancy, Kentucky, pleaded guilty in March to two charges of manslaughter and single counts of driving under the influence and driving while uninsured. He was initially charged with two counts of murder, but those were downgraded to the manslaughter charges.
According to previous reports, Ellis had been drinking at a bar in Walton when he crashed into a utility pole on Dixie Highway in the early morning hours December 10, 2011. Heather Stanley, 21, and Stacy Hopkins, 43, both of Dry Ridge, died in the crash.
Prosecutors said Ellis had a BAC of .234 and was doing 86 MPH at the time of the crash. He had also been smoking marijuana that night.
