(Dillsboro, Ind.) – A local grocery store’s alarm system notified police of an alleged burglar in the business last week.
At about 1:37 a.m. on Saturday, April 13, Dearborn County dispatchers were notified of a motion alarm at the Dillsboro IGA. A sheriff’s department captain was in the area and quickly responded to the store on the 12700 block of Main Street.
According to Dillsboro Chief of Police Ryan Brandt, the first officer on scene noticed the inside of the store to be in disarray. A ladder was also found a ladder leading to the store’s roof and removed it before calling for backup.
During a search inside the building, officers located Kasey R. Norman, of Dillsboro, hiding behind a stack of milk crates. He was then taken into custody.
Brandt, who is leading the investigation, said it appears Norman was alone inside the building and is the only suspect at this time.
Norman, 21, is charged with Burglary, Attempted Theft, and Criminal Mischief. He has been ordered held on a $2,500 cash and $10,000 surety bond out of Dearborn Superior Court I in the Dearborn County Law Enforcement Center, where he remains held Monday.
Brandt thanked the Dearborn County Sheriff’s Department and Indiana State Police for their help in the case.
