Acapulco Mexican Restaurant in Lawrenceburg.
(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) - A Mexican restaurant owner awaiting his trial for Corrupt Business Influence and Forgery is out of jail in Dearborn County.
Adolfo Lopez, of Greendale, owned or co-owned Acapulco Mexican Restaurants across southeast Indiana, along with his brother Benito Lopez who is also charged. The restaurants were raided by excise police last September as the restaurants allegedly dodged sales taxes by failing to report millions in cash sales.
Since the raids, Adolfo Lopez had been in jail on a $3 million bond assigned by Dearborn Circuit Court Judge James Humphrey. Earlier this month, the Indiana Court of Appeals ruled that Lopez’s bond was excessive and ordered the county court to lower the amount.
Humphrey did so on April 16. Soon afterwards Adolfo Lopez posted his new bond of $100,000.
The Lopez’s jury trial in Dearborn Circuit Court is still scheduled for June 3.
