The Ripley County Sheriff's Office has been noticed by several residents of the county about a scam currently making the rounds in Ripley County.
A brief synopsis of the scam is as follows.
A foreign sounding male telephones to inform Medicare recipients that to receive their new, up-to-date, card, the caller needs to verify the Medicare recipient’s personal information along with their current banking information. It is our understanding this is not from Medicare, but a person trying to gather important, personal information for their own benefit.
DO NOT give any caller your personal and/or banking information. If anyone does call asking for this information, hang up IMMEDIATELY.
You can also contact your phone provider and request the calling number blocked for your safety and security if you have Caller ID.
Please help protect our seniors and share this information with family and friends who are recipients.
You can seek more information from the Attorney General’s Office, or the Ripley County Sheriff’s Office
