(Dillsboro, Ind.) – A two-year-old child remains in the hospital Friday after being injured in a bicycle accident in Dillsboro earlier this week.
A woman was riding a bicycle with her daughter in a seat mounted to the bike at about 2:00 p.m. Tuesday. As the woman prepared to turn from the sidewalk along North Street into an alley, the bike collided with a vehicle pulling out from the alley, said Dillsboro Chief of Police Ryan Brandt.
Although the car was moving very slowly, if not stopped, the impact sent the mother and two-year-old flying over the handlebars.
The child was transported to Dearborn County Hospital, then soon afterwards transported to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital with possible serious injuries where she remains as of Friday.
Brandt described the intersection of the sidewalk and the alley a blind corner. Neither the woman on the bike nor the driver saw each other until it was too late.
The chief said that it is unclear if the child was restrained in her bike seat. The accident remains under investigation.
Brandt said the names of the people involved in the accident were not immediately available.
