Boone County Sheriff's Office spokesman Tom Scheben says around 6:00 p.m. a deputy had stopped his SUV cruiser on the shoulder of eastbound I-275 at the 7.3 mile marker. That's when a second vehicle struck the sheriff's vehicle from behind, ramming it into Deputy Jeremy Rosing. Rosing was outside of his vehicle speaking with a woman whose car was stopped on the shoulder at the time. An eyewitness said the vehicle that hit the police cruiser was a small red minivan or SUV. An ambulance rushed the deputy to University of Cincinnati Hospital with apparent non-life threatening injuries. He was reported to be conscious and alert at the scene. A total of four vehicles were involved in the crash which included more injuries. Two people in a Ford Focus were hurt, one person in a Jeep, and one in a Chrysler. All were taken to the hospital.
Response to the accident caused traffic on eastbound I-275 to back up for at least a couple miles.
