Press release from Switzerland County Farmers and Artisans Marketplace
(Switzerland County, Ind.) - Are you a local farmer, producer or artisan looking for new marketing opportunities for your product? If so, your participation is being solicited for a new, exciting venture.
For the past few months, a group of community members, in collaboration with the Purdue Extension Service and Switzerland County Farm Bureau, have met to discuss developing a sustainable, viable farmers market in Switzerland County. As a result, the new Switzerland County Farmers and Artisans Marketplace is gearing up for the 2013 season and looking for vendors.
The Marketplace will showcase high-quality fresh produce and other agricultural items that are raised and grown by participating vendors from Switzerland County and adjacent counties. The Marketplace will also provide potential income to artisans and craftspeople.
Farmers markets provide valuable marketing opportunities and low barriers of entry for new and beginning farmers. The Marketplace will allow smaller-scale farmers to enjoy a profitable local outlet for their production. Furthermore, the Marketplace will add another venue for the community to purchase locally grown produce and other agricultural items from local vendors rather than retail stores located in other counties or states.
A vibrant, robust Marketplace that highlights the fresh produce, agricultural and other handcrafted items available from Switzerland County and adjacent counties will likely become a destination-oriented feature of the County.
We encourage anyone interested in being a part of this exciting project to join us at our next meeting on April 22 at 6 p.m. at the Switzerland County Technology and Education Center. For additional information contact us at (812) 599-7205 or (812) 594-2050 or via email at SwissCoFarmers@gmail.com.
