(Batesville, Ind.) - The Batesville Police Department arrested a local man on multiple drug charges following a traffic stop Thursday night.
At approximately 10:00 p.m. Officer Blake Roope initiated a traffic stop on State Road 46 near Merkel Road for a minor traffic violation. During the stop officers observed drug paraphernalia in plain view, which lead to a search of the vehicle.
The search revealed various prescription pills, marijuana, hypodermic needles, drug paraphernalia and a loaded 9mm handgun.
The driver of the vehicle, Mathew H. Wissel, 49, of Batesville, was arrested for possession of a controlled substance (Class D felony), Unlawful Possession of a Syringe (Class D felony), Possession of Marijuana (Class A misdemeanor), Reckless Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (Class A misdemeanor), and Possession of a Handgun Without a License (Class A misdemeanor).
Wissel was incarcerated at the Ripley County Jail.
Officer Roope was assisted on the stop by Sgt. Danny Hamilton and Officer Mike Manus.
