(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) - Lawrenceburg Community Schools are considering random drug testing for students at Greendale Middle School and Lawrenceburg High School.
It’s only a proposal at this point, but would apply to students who participate in extracurricular activities or drive to school, according to Lawrenceburg High School Assistant Principal Steve Johnson.
According to the draft policy, any student who fails the drug test would be prevented from participating in any extracurriculars until they pass a follow-up test. The student would also be required to meet with their parents and an administrator, who would provide the names of counseling and assistance agencies that the family may want to contact for help.
The school district is seeking feedback from parents and the community on the testing proposal. In addition to the draft policy, an online survey is on the school website. Click here for the link.
“Our hope is that we get a majority of response before the end of this week, so please take a few minutes to open up the survey and respond,” said Johnson.
