Fire At Greendale Glass Plant

(Greendale, Ind.) - A large fire broke out at a glass factory in Greendale Saturday afternoon.

At 4:10 p.m., the Greendale and Lawrenceburg Fire Departments were called to the Anchor Glass factory on the corner of Ridge Avenue and West Belleview Road. 

 

Witnesses reported thick black smoke billowing into the air and flames visible from the roof. 

 

Dispatchers say there have been no reports of injuries.

 

The exact cause of the fire is unknown at this time. An employee stated that the fire may have started in a sand furnace.

 

The plant is one of eight manufacturing facilities for the Anchor Glass Container Corporation. Anchor Glass ist he third largest manufacturer of glass containers in North America, employing approximately 2,900 people nationwide and over 250 in southeast Indiana.
