(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) - An Aurora City Councilman’s wife accused of taking money from her employer has been sentenced to probation.
Erin Milish is the wife of councilman Joe Milish. She was arrested in January 2012 after stealing money from her employer, the UPS Store in Lawrenceburg.
In a negotiated agreement met with prosecutors in January, Milish pleaded guilty to Forgery (Class C felony) while charges of Theft and Fraud on a Financial Institution were dismissed.
Milish, 32, was sentenced Wednesday in Dearborn Circuit Court to eight years, all suspended to probation. She also has to pay $30,000 restitution, with interest, to her former employer by making monthly installments of at least $250.
The owner of the UPS Store caught on to the theft of money following an audit of its finances. Investigators said Milish had been forging the owner's name on store checks and cashing them.
