(Indianapolis, Ind.) - Indiana could save more than $450 million per year if all schools, universities and state employees were on the same health plan.

The State Budget Committee heard from a consulting firm Wednesday that the health plan consolidation would save money by offering in part higher premiums and less generous benefits than some schools currently provide.

Lawmakers debated a mandate on a statewide health insurance pool earlier this year, but ultimately voted to study the issue further.
