(Aurora, Ind.) – A Lawrenceburg man is accused of stealing his grandparents’ credit card, then using it to rack up thousands of dollars in charges at a strip club.
Joseph B. Burress III, 28, was arrested Monday, February 25 in Dearborn County. He was formally charged with Fraud and Receiving Stolen Property, both Class D felonies, on January 25.
Investigators say Burress took his grandparents’ credit card without permission last April. According to a court affidavit, Burress allegedly charged almost $4,000 to the card over three days – April 20 through 22, 2012 – for “services” at Concepts Gentleman’s Club in Lawrenceburg and Journey’s Bar and Grill in Aurora.
An employee of the strip club notified police of Burress activity on April 22 after Burress attempted to open a line of credit at Concepts. The employee noticed that the name on Burress’ drivers license and the name on the credit card did not match.
Burress’ grandparents told Dearborn County Sheriff’s Department investigators that they never gave him permission to use their credit card.
As of Friday, Burress remains held in jail at the Dearborn County Law Enforcement Center on a $500 bond. A jury trial has been scheduled for July 8.
