(Friendship, Ind.) – Indiana Department of Transportation engineers are giving an estimated reopening date for State Road 62 near Friendship.
The two-lane highway has been closed since portions of it were washed out by heavy rains in April 2011. The closure has created a big headache for commuters in the area, not to mention hitting their wallets to pay for the extra gas to use the established detour.
INDOT announced Wednesday that repairs on SR 62 are ramping up. After taking a portion of the winter off, crews returned to the site this week. They are working six days a week to complete excavation of the final 200 feet of the slide correction.
State Road 62 is expected to reopen by mid-May 2013, if weather cooperates.
“INDOT will continue to work closely with the contractor for options that may advance completion,” said INDOT spokesman Greg Prince.
HIS Contractors was hired last year to repair the contracted $1.6 million project.
