(Aurora, Ind.) – Faces old and new will man administrative positions at South Dearborn Community Schools next school year.
On Monday, the South Dearborn Board of School Trustees voted 6-1 to hire Micah Thomas as the new principal at South Dearborn High School. Thomas comes to Aurora by way of Huntington North High School in Huntington, Indiana, where he has served as assistant principal since 2007. Huntington North has 1,800 students, compared to South Dearborn’s nearly 900
Thomas has experience in the classroom, too. He began teaching social studies at Frankfort High School in 1989 and did the same at Columbia City High School from 1997 to 2007.
Jason Cheek has been serving as the interim principal at South Dearborn High School this year, since Rob Moorhead left following the 2011-2012 school year to become superintendent at South Ripley Community Schools. Cheek will remain with the high school, going back to his prior role as assistant principal.
Paul Ketcham is making a return to South Dearborn Community Schools. The former South Dearborn High School science teacher and varsity football coach was hired as assistant superintendent. Ketcham is currently the principal at Milan High School.
Joining Ketcham in the trip from Milan to South Dearborn will be Brian Sturgeon, who was hired as the corporation’s new director of technology. Sturgeon had a similar director of technology role at Milan, where he also serves as the high school director for Project Lead the Way. Sturgeon replaces the retiring John Hubbard on the technology director position.
The contracts of all three new South Dearborn hires will start July 1, 2013.
