(Erlanger, Ky.) - Police in Erlanger are looking for a man who stole money earned by Girl Scouts selling their cookies.
On Saturday afternoon, the troop had recently finished their sale at the Kroger store on Dixie Highway in Erlanger. A troop mother had taken the money to her car where a male thief swiped her purse as she wasn’t looking.
As he was being chased by a store employee, the thief dropped the purse but still got away with the cookie money. The thief’s clothing and other items were later found behind a nearby business.
Police say the suspect is possibly Hispanic, 6 feet tall, weighing around 160 pounds. He was wearing a hooded sweatshirt with a surgical mask over his face.
Investigators reviewed security footage which showed the suspected thief and a female accomplice were acting suspicious inside the Kroger store, wandering in several parts of the store prior to the theft. Police believe the female was working as a lookout for the male and may have picked out the victim as a crime of opportunity.
Investigators think the female was waiting in a car for the thief. The couple may live in the area near the Kroger store.
Anybody with information is asked to call the Erlanger Police Department at (859) 727-2424 or Crimestoppers at (513) 352-3040.
