(Rising Sun, Ind.) – Cats and dogs died in a house fire in Ohio County Sunday.

Firefighters from Bear Branch and Rising Sun were called to the home at 13190 Laughery Creek Road at around 12:43 p.m. where they found the home fully engulfed in flames, according to Rising Sun Fire Department’s Nick Levi.

The occupants were home when the fire started. They were treated at the scene for minor cuts and burns. Multiple cats and dogs in the home weren’t as lucky.

The home was a total loss, Levi said. A cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The family is being assisted by the American Red Cross of Southeast Indiana.

Bear Branch was also assisted by Dillsboro Fire, East Enterprise Fire, Ohio County EMS, and Ohio County Sheriff Department crews remained on scene till around 5:30 p.m. putting out hot spots.
