(Dover, Ind.) – Former Dearborn County leader and lifelong resident Bob Connolly died on Valentine’s Day.
Connolly served six years as a Dearborn County Councilman for six years in the late 1960’s and early 1970’s. He followed his stint on council as a county commissioner for four years.
Connolly died on Thursday at the age of 88, family members tell Eagle 99.3. He is believed to has died of natural causes.
Born and raised in the Dover area, he led an eventful life. After graduating from Guilford High School, Connolly joined the Marines. He fought in 36 days of the Battle of Iwo Jima during World War II, according to his family. Bob then returned to Dearborn County where he worked for 42 years at the Lawrenceburg Distillery.
Connolly is survived by four children and his wife of 61 years, Marie.
Visitation will be held Sunday, February 17 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Andres-Wuestefeld Funeral Home in Dover. Connolly’s funeral mass will take place Monday at 10:30 a.m. at St. John Catholic Church in Dover, which he attended all his life.
