(Indianapolis, Ind.) - The flu continues to be a problem in Indiana, based on the latest fatality numbers from the Indiana State Department of Health.
The department reported Monday that there have now been 52 flu-related deaths since November. Five deaths have occurred in the past week.
Three of those latest deaths have claimed people between the ages of 25 and 64. One victim was under 18 and the other was older than 65. Thirty-nine of the state’s flu-related deaths have claimed sufferers in the 65+ group, many of whom were battling other health problems.
The Indiana State Department of Health only releases local flu statistics when there are at least five deaths in one county. Marion County has had six deaths and Allen County has had five, but no other Indiana county has had more than four.
