(Greendale, Ind.) - A Greendale Police officer is recovering from an injury on the job, but he'll have some new company while recovering at home.

During the height of the winter storm last Thursday at about 8:28 p.m., Sergeant Kevin Turner responded to a single-vehicle accident on the Interstate 275 ramp near U.S. 50. While working the accident, a second and third vehicle were unable to stop on the icy roadway and hit the first car.

The officer was able to jump onto the first vehicle’s hood to avoid being pinned between two vehicles. The impact from the third victim did bounced him from the hood.

Turner tells Eagle 99.3 he suffered a sprained knee. He was taken to the hospital and released.

“Good thing I watched a lot of Dukes of Hazzard and learn to slide on a car hood. Used it to avoid being crushed,” he said.

Turner said he could be back on duty soon once he is cleared by a doctor.

The officer did have to return to the hospital over the weekend, but for a more pleasant reason. Turner and his wife welcomed a new baby daughter on Sunday.
