(East Enterprise, Ind.) - The chief of the East Enterprise Volunteer Fire Department is hoping to quash rumors that there is an arsonist on the loose.
Fire Chief Jeff Darling tells Eagle 99.3 that in addition to Tuesday’s fire that badly damaged the Countryside Café, there have been four other fires in the district in the past two years. The fires were caused by a clogged chimney, an electrical problem, and a space heater.
All but one of those fires have been ruled accidental by the Indiana State Fire Marshal, said Darling. The only exception is one house fire that occurred near Florence in December. The cause of that blaze remains under investigation.
“There’s been no indication of an arsonist,” the chief said in hopes of settling fears in the community.
Darling said Tuesday’s fire at Countryside Café has been ruled accidental cause by an electrical issue. A damage estimate was not immediately available.
Nobody was injured in the Countryside Café fire.
