(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) – Sentencing comes Monday for a woman who attempted to kill her four-year-old son by setting their Hidden Valley home on fire.
Vanessa Dean allegedly used gasoline to set her home ablaze on Alpine Drive the morning of October 13, 2011. Dean ran from the burning home, but left her son inside the smoke-filled building. Her mother-in-law and some neighbors witnessed the fire and were able to save the child.
Dean later told an EMT she was trying to kill herself and her son.
According to court documents, Dean may have reached a plea deal with prosecutors in Dearborn County. She faces charges of Attempted Murder, Arson, and Neglect of a Dependant, but some of the charges could be dismissed in exchange for the plea.
Dean’s sentencing hearing is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Monday in Dearborn Circuit Court.
