(Indianapolis, Ind.) - Indiana First Lady Karen Pence is recovering from emergency gallbladder surgery performed Thursday.
The governor’s office says Mrs. Pence began have abdominal pain on Wednesday. Gall bladder removal surgery was performed the following day at an Indianapolis hospital.
The first lady is expected to recover at home over the weekend and resume activities sometime next week.
"Karen and I are both grateful for the prayers and concern expressed by so many Hoosiers over the past 24 hours and for the professionalism of the medical personnel who diagnosed and performed her surgery. We are all fortunate to have such dedicated health care professionals serving the people of Indiana," said Governor Mike Pence in a statement.
The governor had planned to visit Evansville on Thursday, but cleared his schedule in order to be with his wife.
