(Greendale, Ind.) - Greendale Police have tracked down a suspected purse thief thanks to an aware citizen.
One two occasions this month, purses were taken from vehicles parked outside the Circle K-Shell station on U.S. 50. Once on January 4 and again on January 17. Both times, the station’s surveillance cameras captured the male suspect driving a tan or brown minivan.
Following the first theft, the suspect was seen using a credit card from the stolen purse at the Walmart in Aurora.
On Monday, January 21, an alert citizen at the Circle K saw the suspect’s minivan there again. Three Greendale Police officers responded and detained the vehicle’s occupants.
The driver was identified as Kenneth S. Eads, 35, of Aurora. After further investigation, Greendale Police arrested Eads on Thursday.
Eads faces charges including Forgery (Class C Felony), Fraud (Class D Felony), two counts of Theft (Class D Felony), and two counts of Unlawful Entry into a Motor Vehicle (Class B Misdemeanor). He is held at the Dearborn County Law Enforcement Center awaiting his initial hearing in court.
“The Greendale Police would like to thank the public for their response in helping to solve this crime. Citizens are reminded not to leave vehicles unlocked when unoccupied, and to keep valuables out of view when left in vehicles,” said Greendale Police Sgt. Kevin Turner.
