(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) - Lawrenceburg’s 10-County Regional Grant Program is back in business helping attract business and investment to southeast Indiana.
City Council voted 3-2 on December 27 to put a temporary hold on the program. Council members Mike Lawrence, Jane Pope, and Doug Taylor halted the grants over concerns about a recent federal subpoena relating to the city’s grant and loan programs.
On Monday, council’s attorney, Nicholas Kile with lawfirm Barnes & Thornburg, assured the members the regional grant program is legal and there is a city ordinance that sets forth the process.
Council voted unanimously to approve nine grants totaling $3.8 million for economic development projects across southeast Indiana.
The grant agreements that were to have the funding split between 2012 and 2013 will now be paid out fully in 2013, said assistant city attorney Leslie Votaw.
