Hamilton Co. Sheriff's Office

(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) - A woman who allegedly attempted to burn down her Hidden Valley home and kill her son could be negotiating a plea.

Investigators say Vanessa Dean set her home on Alpine Drive ablaze in an attempt to kill her four-year-old son in October 2011.

Dean allegedly told an EMT at the scene that she poured gas around the home and was trying to kill herself and her son because she thought police were going to take the child away from her. The boy was saved from the burning, smoke-filled home by Dean’s mother-in-law and neighbors.

A negotiated plea hearing is scheduled for Friday in Dearborn Circuit Court. Specific details of the possible agreement are not yet known publicly. A relative of Dean told Eagle 99.3 that they believe the agreement may not include jail time.

Dean’s case was to go to trial on Monday, January 7. She’s charged with Attempted Murder, Arson, and Neglect of a Dependant.

In February, Dean’s attorney motioned for a defense of mental disease of defect.
