(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) – A Sunday, December 30 automobile crash in Lawrenceburg claimed the life of one of the victims.
A Chevrolet passenger car driven by Wanda Koons, 85, of Lawrenceburg, made an improper left turn from U.S. 50 westbound to South Tanners Creek Drive, Lawrenceburg Police said Wednesday. Koons’ vehicle struck an eastbound Honda minivan driven by Robin James, 29, of Aurora.
Koons and her passenger - Izetta Cochran, 88, of Lawrenceburg - were flown by aircare to University Hospital Medical Center in Cincinnati. Cochran died of her injuries there a few hours later.
As of Wednesday, Koons remains in serious condition at the hospital, police said.
James, a 28-year-old passenger, and four children ages four to eight in her vehicle were all taken to Dearborn County Hospital following the crash. Two of those children were later flown to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. Only one juvenile is still hospitalized, but that child is expected to be released in the next few days.
Police say alcohol and drugs do not appear to be factors in the crash, which remains under investigation by Lawrenceburg Police.
Lawrenceburg Police were assisted at the scene by the Dearborn County Sheriff’s Department, Lawrenceburg Fire & EMS, Greendale EMS, and Aurora EMS.
