Boone County Sheriff’s Office investigators say on Saturday afternoon Dean Pauly, 42, shot his ex-wife Denise Pauly, 40, in the street on the 5700 block of Vice Lane in Petersburg.
Denise, of Burlington, died at the scene. Dean, of Petersburg, was rushed to University of Cincinnati Hospital, but died Sunday morning from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot.
Police say it appears Denise Pauly was kidnapped by her ex-husband earlier Saturday morning before the shooting.
Dean brought the couple’s three children to Denise at her home Friday evening. Denise took the children to her mother's house since she had to work in the morning.
When Denise failed to show up for work Saturday morning, her employer called the sheriff’s office.
As deputies looked for Denise, at about 1:05 p.m. Saturday Dean and Denise walked out onto Vice Lane when Denise called out to a neighbor who was working outside.
Investigators believe the shouting prompted Dean Pauly to shoot his ex-wife then turn the gun on himself.
