(Undated) - If you’re a graduate or former students of Ivy Tech Community College who is behind on repaying tuition, your taxes could be withheld.

The Associated Press reports that Ivy Tech is joining a program that will dock the income tax refunds of students who owe money on their tuition bills. The community college is using the state’s tax intercept program starting in 2013 for collecting nearly $9 million in past due money owed from the 2011-2012 academic year and following years.

Ivy Tech, a state-run college with over 100,000 students enrolled, also uses collection agencies to regain outstanding debts, usually collecting about $1 million each year.

The State of Indiana uses a similar system to collect back child support, the report stated.
