(Aurora, Ind.) - More than 3,000 people will be trying to beat the heat and cancer at South Dearborn High School in Aurora this weekend.

The Dearborn and Ohio County Relay for Life begins at 9:00 a.m. Saturday and continues 24-hours on the high school track until 9:00 a.m. Sunday. Participants should be sure to stay fully hydrated as temperatures are forecasted to reach into the mid-90s.

At last count on Thursday, 78 teams are scheduled to participate. Organizers hope to raise $193,000 for the American Cancer Society. Last year’s event brought in $192,000.

Aside from the team members rounding the South Dearborn High School track, there will be various other activities.

Women will be able to receive mammographies at little or no cost in the St. Elizabeth Mobile Mammography Unit at little or no cost from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Saturday. Those wishing to receive a mammography must call (859) 655-7400 to sign up in advance.

A survivor luncheon will be held in the SDHS cafeteria at 11:00 a.m. Saturday.

The Pantene Beautiful Lengths program will be on-site from 4:30 to 5:15 p.m. Saturday for people to donate their hair, which will then be made into free wigs for women who have lost their hair due to cancer treatment.  The hair must be cut-off in advance of the donation and donors must contact Beth Teany at jbah4t@comcast.net in advance of the relay.
