(Vevay, Ind.) - The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) is advising motorists that State Road 56 (S.R. 56) in Switzerland County is scheduled to open Friday afternoon, December 21st. Force Construction will remove barricades and open S.R. 56, located 0.6 mile north of S.R. 156.
The $6.3 million slide correction and realignment project is significantly completed on S.R. 56. This project enhances the overall safety of the roadway and opening much earlier than the original scheduled date of June, 2013. The improvements feature 12 foot driving lanes, 2 foot shoulders, drainage and guardrail. Seed and sod work will take place in the spring of 2013 to wrap up project completion. Flagging operations may be required to restrict traffic during this period.
