Press release from the Dearborn Community Foundation

(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) - A program that annually provides more than $300,000 in scholarships to Lawrenceburg High School graduates is renamed in tribute of former Lawrenceburg Mayor the late Paul E. Tremain Sr., who was instrumental in creating the scholarship.

The Board of Directors of the Dearborn Community Foundation, Inc. (DCF) recently approved a request by the Lawrenceburg City Council and Mayor Dennis Carr to change the name of the Lawrenceburg Educational Grant Program in tribute to Tremain. The name is now officially the Paul E. “Truck” Tremain Memorial Scholarship. An endowment that also supports the scholarship is also renamed the Paul E. “Truck” Tremain Memorial Scholarship Fund.

“Those of us who knew Paul Tremain know that he was very passionate about how the city could impact the future of young people and the community as a whole,” said Fred McCarter, Executive Director of DCF. “The city leaders’ request to pay tribute to Paul with this name change is certainly fitting. What makes it even more special is that Paul was also a teacher at Lawrenceburg High School.”

The Lawrenceburg City Council established an endowment to support the Paul E. “Truck” Tremain Memorial Scholarship in early 2012. Anyone can contribute to the endowment that was established to provide funds to support the scholarship in perpetuity. Contributions should be sent to DCF at 322 Walnut Street, Lawrenceburg, IN 47025. Checks should be written to DCF with a note that the donation is to the Paul E. “Truck” Tremain Memorial Scholarship Fund.

“Contributing to the Paul E. “Truck” Tremain Memorial Scholarship Fund is an opportunity for students and parents, who have already benefitted from the scholarship, to give back,” McCarter said.

Lawrenceburg High School students and parents should check out the DCF website (dearborncf.org) to learn more about the Tremain Scholarship. It’s important to note the scholarship program has an eligibility requirement for community service and students should be working on their community service hours as soon as they finish 8th grade. Students and parents also can visit the DCF office or call 812-539-4115 for more information.
