(Dearborn County, Ind.) - A Dearborn County Council meeting that had been scheduled for Tuesday has been postponed.
District 3 Councilman Jim Hughes, 62, died unexpectedly of a heart attack on Sunday.
Council was set to discuss an additional $1.1 million in funding for an expansion of the Dearborn County Law Enforcement Center during a regularly scheduled meeting Tuesday. In light of Hughes’ death, the funding question will be delayed to a newly scheduled council meeting set for Thursday, December 20 at 6:30 p.m.
Hughes -- along with fellow councilman Dan Lansing -- was a frequent “no” vote against funding for the jail expansion project. At various council meetings he voiced a desire for the project to first earn the approval of Dearborn County voters through a referendum.
Meanwhile, councilman Hughes’ visitation will take place Friday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Dillsboro Elementary School. The former South Dearborn Community Schools teacher’s funeral is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the school.
