(Brookville, Ind.) - After thousands of dollars in fines and a newly-hired office employee's arrest, Franklin County’s embattled auditor is resigning.
Erica Hudson has been surrounded by controversy in office this year. Citing health issues, she failed to show up at her office for a couple months this past summer. That resulted in a $4,000 IRS penalty against the county.
Last month, Hudson hired a part-time employee who was arrested on a warrant a day after starting the job. The employee was arrested in her Brookville apartment, although she denied knowing the employee prior to his hiring.
Hudson submitted a resignation letter last week at the behest of Franklin County Commissioners, the Franklin County Observer newsletter reports. The letter has not yet been formally accepted by Commissioners.
After her extended absence, Hudson began showing up for work again in early November, however, she has now not been seen in her office since November 27, commissioners said.
A replacement county auditor has not been determined.
