(Batesville, Ind.) - A Batesville barn fire that destroyed thousands of dollars in little league baseball equipment was no accident.
On Sunday evening, firefighters were called to the city’s new youth baseball complex on John Street. They discovered a barn engulfed in flames.
Stored inside the structure were baseball helmets, bats, balls, catchers gear, pitching machines and more. The equipment was stored in 60 bags, each valued at between $400 and $500. When the fire was put out, it was apparent that the barn and all the equipment were total losses.
The Indiana State Fire Marshal’s Office has determined the fire was a result of arson, Batesville Fire Chief Todd Schutte told The Batesville Herald-Tribune Tuesday.
The Fire marshal’s office is offering a $5,000 reward for any information about the arson fire. Anybody with information should call the Batesville Police Department, (812) 934-3131.
