North Dearborn Road was closed to through traffic on Monday.
(Dover, Ind.) – Motorists can use North Dearborn Road east of State Road 1 in Dover for the first time since June.
A $3 million construction project to realign some portions of North Dearborn Road shut it down on June 25. Dearborn County Transportation Department engineer Todd Listerman said Dave O’Mara Contractors opened North Dearborn Road at approximately 4:30 p.m. Saturday.
North Dearborn Road will close again next Spring for the completion of the reconstruction project. An exact date of the Spring closing has not been announced.
Among the improvements to be made include better sight distance, replacing the bridge at Slab Camp Creek with a new concrete culvert, and wider 12-foot lanes with shoulders.
Eighty percent of the project costs are being paid for with federal funds.
