image(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) - New monthly homes sales statistics are out for Indiana showing a very good October for Ripley County.

The October Real Estate Market Report from the Indiana Association of Realtors shows that home sales in southeast Indiana remained steady last month. Thirty-three single-family homes, condominiums, or townhomes were sold in Dearborn County in October at a median price of $130,000.

Ripley County had a big jump in sales with 21 homes changing owners, ten more than October of last year. Ripley County’s median sales price was up nearly 30 percent to $124,900 last month.

Higher than normal activity was seen in Ohio County, where seven homes were sold last month, up from just two in October 2011. The median sales price there was $80,500.

Statewide, the number of closed home sales increased 24.5 percent to 6,092 while the media price also improved to $117,500, up 5.9 percent.

Karl Berron, Chief Executive Officer of the Indiana Association of Realtors, said October’s report shows a trend that proves local residential real estate markets across the state continue to strengthen from the worst of the recession.

“To have strong sales and price gains as we enter the last quarter of the year is encouraging,” said Berron. “Buyers and sellers are clearly feeling more confident, as are our members.

“Cheap borrowing costs and the fact homes here have historically held value are still the glue binding this recovery together. Sustained recovery will not happen without real employment and wage growth.”
