Boone County Sheriff's Office

(Walton, Ky.) - The Mayor of Walton says he will not step down following his arrest for Abuse of Public Trust.

Phil Trzop allegedly received cash from the sale of scrap metal from the Boone County Water District, where he is general manager. Police say he used the money to give Christmas bonuses to water district employees, but also kept up to $10,000 of the money.

Trzop told The Kentucky Enquirer he has no plans to resign as mayor. He had just been elected November 6 and took office four days before he was arrested. His term runs through 2014.

Trzop has been suspended without pay from the Boone County Water District.

The Walton city attorney has previously said that Trzop could be removed from office if he is convicted of the Class C felony.
