(Aurora, Ind.) - A Dearborn County couple are accused of taking their infant along for a drug deal.
According to a court affidavit, Ronnie J. Hughes II, 31, and Veronica R. Ison, 24, both of Moores Hill, sold $50 worth of marijuana to a person at the Dillsboro BP station on December 21, 2011. What they did not know was that the buyer was working with the Dearborn County Special Crimes Unit.
A few weeks later on January 17, detectives with the SCU set up another deal. Hughes sold the informant $50 more worth of pot from their home on Wilkerson Road, with Ison and the baby again present.
Special Crimes Unit investigators served a search warrant at the couple’s home on January 30. Inside they allegedly found more evidence of drugs.
Items from the home were sent to the Indiana State Police Laboratory. Results returned in June showed positive tests for marijuana and heroin.
Hughes and Ison were each charged November 2 with Dealing in Marijuana (Class A misdemeanor), Neglect of a Dependant (Class D felony), and Maintaining a Common Nuisance (Class D felony), Possession of Marijuana Less than 30 Grams (Class A misdemeanor), and Possession of Paraphernalia (Class A misdemeanor).
Ison has bailed out of jail at the Dearborn County Law Enforcement Center, but Hughes remains behind bars with additional charges of Possession of a Firearm by a Serious Violent Felon (Class B felony) and Habitual Offender (Class D felony).
