(West Harrison, Ind.) - Sunman-Dearborn Community Schools will be on a balanced calendar next school year.
The school board voted unanimously to approve the 2013-2014 calendar on Thursday, November 8.
Unlike many other area districts, Sunman-Dearborn stuck with a traditional calendar this year. That’s caused problems and increased costs for the district’s vocational students who attend the Southeast Career Center in Versailles.
Next year, Sunman-Dearborn’s first student day will be August 7, compared to this year’s first student day of August 13. There will be a week-long Fall break which is an increase from just two days off this year. Spring break is expanded from one week to two weeks, March 17-28, 2014. The final student day of the year will be a week later on May 28, 2014.
The balanced calendar was favored by the district’s teachers over two other options with more traditional start dates.
